Social Impact Story:

Emma joined PIM’s Model Foundation in 2014, and has helped one of Model Foundation’s winning organizations — TPBC Social Service Organization — get funding and organize community activities. She did a number of pro bono work while she was working at Google Hong Kong, such as Kely Service on youth development, and other NGOs on their digital marketing campaigns. She also organized events for the World Economic Forum.

Fun Fact: She cooks amazing Indian food just like a native!

Data and Startup Geek (Co-President): Having worked in health tech and internet connectivity, Kevin is now Senior Growth Manager with Mos.com, which aims to ensure that every citizen can fully exercise their rights and benefits.

Social Impact Story: After joining PIM’s Model Foundation 2018, Kevin also served as the technology advisor for MyH2O (Chinese water non-profit). He believes that technology should be proactively embraced not for its own sake, but to drive societal benefit. He thought about moving to China to work in social impact, but eventually joined the civic tech company Mos.com in San Francisco.

Fun Fact: Kevin also served in the French military’s elite Foreign Legion corps for a year, which taught him iron-clad discipline and a good dose of humility

Social impact story: Chuyi joined PIM’s Model Foundation program in 2014 and the Investment for Good program in 2018. She has experience in working for the government and various non-profits. She also provides strategic consultancy for A Better Community, a non-profit. She focuses on elderly care provision and pension inequality in an increasingly ageing society, and now she is exploring how AI and IoT could empower the public and social service.

Fun Fact: She is a classical music lover who doesn’t play instrument, and she likes exploring local concert halls when visiting every new city.

Social Impact Story: After coming to Peking University, Carl became a PIM Program Assistant from 2017-18. He helped coordinate PIM’s Impact Lab at Yenching Academy and now works as an intern for the International Institute of Green Finance, a Beijing environmental think tank.

Fun Fact: Carl briefly studied four languages (Spanish, French, Arabic, and Latin) during middle and high school before deciding to learn Mandarin in college.

Social impact story: After joining PIM’s Model Foundation 2018, Danyi volunteered at New York Acumen Impact Circle. Promoting social innovation is what she is passionate about, she believes in the idea that everyone can be a changemaker. Upon graduation, she will take on an impact investing role.

Fun fact: Danyi is an amateur pole dancer and would love to teach people how to do pole dancing in the future.

Social Impact Story: Jen served as PIM’s Business Analyst Intern in 2018. She is currently completing her Master’s thesis in conjunction with her work for Equality Now, researching on government and NGO initiatives combating sex trafficking in both the Philippines and China. She has also conducted research for a maternal and reproductive mental health clinic. She coordinated the first ever U.S. summit to end female genital mutilation, and participated in the annual Asia Region Anti Trafficking conference in Bangkok.

Social impact story: Jichen participated in PIM Model Foundation 2018 as one of the only high school students. Jichen loves sciences, especially astronomy, and vigorously works to popularize the science through public lectures, astronomical observations, and folk events. He hasd been working in different fields, including scientific research, environmental protection, science outreach, anti-sexual assault education, legislation, diplomacy. Jichen truly shares in the mission of his school, to make “education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.”

Fun fact: He is the only Chinese who has won three medals in different International Olympiads within a year.

UC Berkeley Undergraduate, major in Data Science & Economics.

Social impact story: Lily interned at PIM in 2017,  the year before she started studying at UC Berkeley.  the year before she started studying at UC Berkeley. Her engagement with PIM has inspired her to lean in and make positive impacts on her community once she joined Berkeley. “Working with an amazing team and collaborated with great talents from all around the world, I have not only widened my vision and gained a lot of useful professional experience, but also learned about strategic philanthropy to amplify my social impact. Two years have passed after I left PIM for college, but the positive influence from PIM has lasted on me.” Lily said. She later becomes an active member of the PIM alumni and wants to continue contributing more to the PIM community.

Fun fact: Lily writes a diary every day for five years.

Social Impact Story: Serena joined PIM’s Model Foundation 2016 and was a PIM Programs Intern in 2017. This sparked her interest in pursuing a graduate degree in education at Harvard, where she works on a number of education projects at the Harvard Teaching and Learning Lab.

Fun fact: Serena used to love snow when she lived in China, but now experiencing the long winter in Boston, she became tired of the snow and cannot wait to embrace the warm sunshine of spring.
